The new Director of Logistics and Installations, National Guard Bureau/A4, Brig. Gen. Russell L. Ponder and Chief of Logistics Readiness Division, NGB/A4, Col. Brian K. Sims met with the student, staff and faculty of the Logistics Readiness University here during this year’s Logistics Readiness University training course being held here June 4-19, 2018.

This year NGB/A4, in conjunction with the LRU staff, have been able to provide to more than 1,000 Airmen training within the logistics community.

“LRU makes you a more ready Airman,” Sims said. “It better prepares our Airmen to meet the requirement of both the Air Force and state during domestic crisis.”

The LRU was visited by Ponder during the third week of training.  Ponder, spoke with all students and faculty about the importance of the LRU and the expectations NGB/A4 has of the university.

“I am impressed with the quality of instruction students are receiving,” said Ponder. “We have to make sure we keep doing this.”

The LRU has a full staff which incorporates over 200 years of service and experience. This year’s staff is comprised of the following members the first two weeks: Capt. Joseph A. Smith as the commandant and Chief Master Sgt. Steven R. Chandler as the superintendent. For the last two weeks 1st Lt. Charles O. Compton is serving as the commandant, Chief Master Sgt. Charles W. Wiley as the superintendent and SMSgt Edward F. Cassidy as First Sergeant. The university has taken place with the support of Capt. Edric A. Carter and Capt. Angela Feliciano as the liaisons for NGB/A4 and Career Field Functional Area Managers.

LRU students are learning and familiarizing with what makes them unique as logisticians to provide support to our flyers, maintainers and to all 90 ANG wings throughout the mainland and US territories.

This year LRU has a robust curriculum with 29 courses covering a variety of topics from the 21R, 2F, 2G, 2S and 2T career fields. Some of the courses have been divided by weeks. Some of the courses LRU has offered are the Materiel Management Sustainment course, Materiel Management Superintendent course and Logistics Readiness Officer Development course to name a few.
